Our vision at Total Arts Coalition is to create a world where arts education is an integral part of every child’s development, fostering creativity, critical thinking, and cultural appreciation in every K-12 classroom. We believe that everyone is a star and aim to cultivate a community of passionate educators and inspired students who together will lead the way in making the arts a vibrant and essential component of education.
At Total Arts Coalition, we are dedicated to educating, perfecting, performing, and promoting arts education. Our mission is to inspire and empower individuals of all ages through high-quality arts instruction, with a special focus on training exceptional teachers and partnering with K-12 schools. We strive to nurture talent, build confidence, and contribute to the cultural enrichment of our community, ensuring that the arts remain a vibrant and integral part of our students’ lives from kindergarten through 12th grade.
Founded in 2013 as Total Spirit Connection by Dr. Taurus M. Hines, the Total Arts Coalition (TAC) began as a performing arts ministry. Dr. Hines, a former dance teacher in Shelby County schools, saw that many children lacked opportunities to explore theater, dance, and other creative fields. TAC was created to fill this gap, giving kids the chance to perform and explore the arts.
Dr. Hines also recognized a similar need for adults in Memphis to express their creativity. What started as a dance company quickly expanded to include puppetry and theater arts, culminating in our first play. Today, TAC offers programs in dance, theater, music production, and more, welcoming everyone—regardless of age or experience—to discover their artistic potential.
Our vision is to provide educators and students with a true artistic experience, fostering a total artistic connection. At TAC, you can think like an artist, dream of your potential, and perform to your abilities. We strive to make the stage a place where everyone can shine.
DR. TAURUS M. HINES, PRESIDENT
Dr. Hines is a graduate of Sheffield High School in Memphis, TN. His adventures in the arts began when he was in elementary school and later carried over to his high school years. He aspired to be an astronaut, but traded his dream of being with the stars, to train the future stars of America. He received his BFA in Dance Education from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA. He later pursued two additional degrees: M.Ed from Christian Brothers University and Ed.S from Union University. He served children in the Memphis, Shelby County, and Nashville school districts for over twenty years. It is his dream to create a performance space for all ages to express their artistic gifts and become stars on the stage.
